York Mgbejume was born

in Hartford, Connecticut in 2004. He found an interest in art in 8th grade and began to study at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts high school as a Musical Theatre major. 

While in his senior year he switched from the Musical theater program and began to pursue his love for visual art in his school’s full day program. Throughout his senior year he developed his passion for painting while reinforcing his interests in drawing. He then began to develop himself and found a love for larger pieces, and eventually started practicing murals. He found that large canvases were something that he was drawn to for some reason. He loved the idea of a huge body of work taking up so much space you’re forced to look and think.

The analysis of humans became one of the many bases of York’s pieces throughout his senior year. His preferred medium is in oil on canvas though his work appears on paper and panel as well.
